The Process

Reflect - Explore - Apply - Decide

The college application timeline and process are different for every student. This is why I first meet with families to determine what services are needed. After reviewing the student's academic record, extracurricular activities, and interests, we begin the REFLECT process where each student can understand their own learning style, personal needs and educational goals. Then we can EXPLORE schools and majors that match those goals before moving to the APPLY part of the process. Finally, students will be able to DECIDE on a school that is a good fit academically, socially, and financially!

All sessions are available on Zoom or in person (Westlake Village, California)

college survey

Reflect

The self-exploration done at the beginning of the process allows each student to REFLECT on who they are and what goals they have after high school. Surveys may be used to help them understand their personality traits, learning styles, skills, and interests. This knowledge allows students to make meaningful decisions about the remainder of their time in high school, and gets them excited about their college search!

College tour in Southern California

explore

After reviewing a student's academic profile and goals, I will suggest a preliminary list of colleges that are a good fit academically, socially, and financially. I can then guide families in planning college visits (in-person or virtual!) to EXPLORE options. Students will also explore standardized testing options and timelines, as well as extracurricular activities to further develop their skills and refine their interests.

Applying to college

Apply

With a balanced list, students are ready to APPLY to colleges!

I will help your student develop a timeline to meet application deadlines, brainstorm essay ideas, and provide feedback as students polish their personal statements, develop a strategy for obtaining meaningful letters of recommendation and create an activities list to highlight their accomplishments. By keeping students motivated and efficiently moving through the application process, I can reduce the parent-child stress!

Graduation from college

Decide

Once college admission offers are in, I can help you evaluate opportunities and compare financial aid packages, provide information about scholarships, prepare you for admitted student visits, advise you on waitlists offers, provide suggestions on college housing, and prepare your student for the transition to college!
